Would you give up your medical records to cure disease?
That's the question a New York Times review piece examines this morning.
If the answer is "yes" for you, talk this over with your hematologist at your next visit. Your records could uncover surprising info that would help your fellow patients with ET.
Professor of medicine and engineering David B. Argus notes that having access to quantitative information stored in online medical record has allowed researchers to make some surprising connections. For example, crunching statistics helped researchers discover a link between some heartburn medications and heart attacks.
Argus notes that while patients may be somewhat hinky about sharing info, and calls for new ways of protecting and encrypting records to ensure anonymity and security.
Think about it: As Argus notes, letting researchers comb through your information doesn't involve your taking experimental drugs or going to remote locations for interviews or examinations.
Be well!

ET is a serious disease that requires specialist care. Discuss anything you read here with your doctor. No comments promoting "alternative" or "natural" cures (yes, this includes Rick Simpson's Oil) will be published.
